Zakharlin Fm

Period:
Jurassic

Age Interval:
Middle Callovian - Middle Oxfordian, B2

Province:
Bukhara-SW Gissar

Type Locality and Naming

Along the Zakhari Pass, Kugitangtau, Southwest Gissar. N.V. Beznosov, V.V. Kurbatov in 1980; V.V. Kurbatov, E.A. Repman, 1982 (253, p.42-43). Synonym: Zakharlin Suite, Захарлинская св.

Lithology and Thickness

Black clayey, pelitomorphic, fine-siltstone limestones with thin and fine-plate separation, including siliceous concretions. The suite includes solitary biogenic masses (Gaurdak, Pamuk, etc.) and barrier reef systems of biogenic limestones. Thickness up to 280 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Zarmas Fm. In the Gaurdak area (Shurchi, Beshbulak) on the middle - lower part of the upper Oxfordian (bifurcatus zone) lies the Guzhum-Tyubegatan Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Kurek Fm or Guzhum-Tyubegatan Fm. In Kugitangtau, the eponymous reef complex (upper part of the suite) is overlain by the Kurek Fm.

Regional extent

Southwest Gissar, Bukhara-Karshinsky region. To the north-east of Kugitangtau, the middle Callovian part of the Zakharlin Fm is laterally replaced by the Zarmas Fm, lower Oxfordian deposits (middle part of the Zakharlin Fm) through reef complexes of the Zarmas Fm are replaced by the Kurek Suite; middle Oxfordian deposits of the Kugitang reef complex (upper part of the Zakharlin Fm) through inter-reef deposits (Karangakul section) are replaced by the Kurek Fm.

Age

The middle Callovian late Oxfordian age of the Zakharlin Fm is substantiated by ammonites. (59; 165; 253).The lower boundary of the suite passes in the upper part of the middle Callovian, and the upper boundary gradually slides from the boundary of the middle and upper Oxfordian in Kugitangtau to the lower part of the upper Oxfordian (Gaurdak, Tyubegatan). In the Gaurdak area (Shurchi) in the suite, the Gaurdak reef complex (middle Oxfordian - lower part of the upper Oxfordian) is included, which is overlain by the suite of lower anhydrites of the Gaurdak series with erosion.
